The concept of energy fields as a vital life force can be traced back to the oldest medical systems and is known as Qi in China, ki in Japan, and prana in India. Treatments include Reiki and Therapeutic Touch as well as massage traditions such as acupressure and Shiatsu. Acupuncture and shiatsu, have their roots in ancient medicine, while others, such as therapeutic touch are a contemporary interpretation of one or more ancient practices.
Our holistic practitioners help facilitate your journey using a variety of modalities such as reiki, reflexology, therapeutic touch, chakra balancing and massage. A blissful experience.
The idea of working with the feet to promote health is rooted in many ancient medical systems. In ancient times we stimulated reflexes naturally by walking barefoot over rocks, stones and rough ground. In today's modern world we have lost much of nature's way of maintaining a balanced and healthy equilibrium of these reflexes. Reflexology helps to restore this balance and promote natural health and vitality.
This technique stimulates the feet and hands to promote healing and stimulate the rest of the body's internal organs and muscle systems. Its technique is the physical application of pressure to the feet and hand with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion.
This modality is based on the theory that the foot represents a microcosm of the body and that specific parts of the foot -reflex zones- correspond to organs and other body parts. Practitioners of reflexology believe that these reflex zones represent areas of energy that get congested and thrown out of balance, the same as in other forms of energy work. By pressing on these reflex zones, practitioners can help alleviate problems in the corresponding body parts in order to improve circulation and relieve congestion and pain.
Reiki ('ray-key') is based on ancient Tibetan Buddhist teachings said to date back 10,000 years. These teachings were uncovered in the mid-1880s by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese professor of theology. Reiki is Japanese for "universal life energy." This modality is a form of energy healing that is used to reduce stress and increase energy, peace and feelings of well-being. This energy therapy emphasizes the belief that Reiki Masters transfer energy that is universal, rather than personal, during their sessions. Practitioners of Reiki believe that by this touch therapy, they can transmit positive energy from one person to another, and the proper flow of this life force energy acts as a healing factor. Reiki Masters, place their hands on areas of energy called chakras, as well as the major organs and glands of the body, in order to balance the energy of the body, mind, and spirit.
Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body.
Therapeutic Touch (TT) is a healing technique based on assessing and balancing the bioenergetic field around the body using the hands. Practitioners seek to correct and restore balance by assessing the client's energy field, clearing it, and transferring their energy to the client.
Therapeutic Touch was developed by Dolores Krieger, Ph.D., R.N., and Dora Kunz, a spiritual healer as a contemporary interpretation of ancient healing arts, such as the laying on of hands. It draws upon the ancient Indian belief in prana, the vital energy force that surrounds the body and circulates through 7 chakras. Dr. Krieger, a trained academic and professor at NYU's School of Nursing, and others were interested in subjecting therapeutic touch to rigorous scientific research. Different studies have been conducted to demonstrate that TT induces a relaxation response, alleviates pain, and speeds the healing process.
Asian practitioners suggested more than 2,000 years ago that the flow and balance of life energies are necessary for maintaining health. Today, Therapeutic Touch is used by health professionals, holistic practitioners, therapists, counsellors, clergy, educators and private individuals in hospitals, hospices and palliative care units. Therapeutic Touch is taught and practiced globally, including numerous universities and colleges in Canada. It is accepted in the policies and procedures of an increasing number of health care institutions worldwide and as an intervention in a number of Ontario hospitals.
Therapeutic Touch promotes relaxation and reduction of anxiety, helps to change client's perception of pain and facilitates the body's natural restorative processes.
Our practitioners also offer a selection of body, head & face, and hand & foot treatments at Holistic Treatments.
